Turning a Cost Centre into a Profit Centre: Commercial Director Search for a Leading UAE Healthcare Provider

About The Client:
Industry: Healthcare & Life Sciences
Service : Executive Search
The client is one of the leading healthcare providers in the UAE, operating a large network of hospitals and clinics across the country. Its contact centre had traditionally operated as a support function, managing patient enquiries and appointments as a cost to the business.
As part of its growth strategy, the organisation set out to transform the contact centre into a revenue-generating profit centre, and required a commercial leader capable of building and owning that model.
Challenges Faced:
The assignment involved multiple layers of complexity:
- There is very little talent focused specifically on healthcare contact centres within the region, making a local-only search unviable
- The healthcare contact centre industry is heavily outsourced, with delivery concentrated in the Philippines, Egypt and India, so the relevant talent sat outside the UAE and required a truly international search
- Given cultural nuances, leaders based in those outsourcing markets would not transition directly into the UAE environment, limiting the pool of suitable profiles
- The role demanded a commercial mindset rather than a purely operational one, with the ability to shift the function from cost management to revenue generation
- The mandate required someone able to build a new commercial model from the ground up within a complex regional legal framework
Strategy Used to Overcome the Challenges:
An international market-mapping and executive search strategy was implemented, tailored to the unique structure of the industry.
- Mapped healthcare and large-scale contact centre leaders across the UAE, the Philippines, Egypt and India
- Rather than targeting local nationals in the outsourcing hubs, focused on expatriates leading contact centres in those regions, combining deep operational knowledge with the cross-cultural adaptability needed to succeed in the UAE
- Assessed candidates on commercial acumen, revenue ownership and experience in shifting service operations toward profit-generating models
- Maintained transparent advisory discussions with the client on talent availability, market conditions and the realities of a scarce global talent pool
- Developed detailed candidate intelligence reports and leadership profiles to support the client’s evaluation process
- Positioned the opportunity as a rare chance to design and build a commercial model from scratch within a leading healthcare group
- Supported candidates throughout the full evaluation lifecycle to ensure engagement, alignment and successful closure
Outcome:
The assignment resulted in the successful appointment of a highly accomplished healthcare HR leader with extensive experience across Saudi Arabia’s hospital sector.
The selected candidate brought:
- Proven leadership experience managing HR operations across multiple healthcare facilities within the Kingdom
- Deep expertise in healthcare workforce planning, medical recruitment, organisational development, and regulatory compliance
- Strong understanding of Saudization frameworks, healthcare licensing requirements, and HR transformation initiatives
- A demonstrated track record of building scalable HR functions within high-growth healthcare environments
Since joining, the executive has played a significant role in strengthening organisational capability, supporting expansion initiatives, and building robust talent pipelines across current and future healthcare operations.
The appointment has contributed meaningfully to the organisation’s ongoing growth strategy and strengthened its position within Saudi Arabia’s evolving healthcare landscape.
It’s rare to find a recruitment partner who combines professionalism with empathy, market expertise with humility, and speed with precision. The level of trust and collaboration we’ve built has made a real difference in our talent acquisition journey, especially for corporate critical senior roles.
